Directions: Take 1-10 south and take Exit 240. Turn left (east) on Tangerine Road. In 13.5 miles turn right onto Oracle Road, then in 0.2 miles turn left into Catalina State Park. At the Guard Shack purchase a car pass - cost $7.00. Proceed to the parking lot on the left.  The trip is 63 miles. 

The distance of the hike is 6 miles and is rated as a C+, which is fairly easy. All hikers will hike in one group.

January 27, 2017 - Catalina State Park - 50 Year Trail and Other Trails

  

The hikers of the Short Hike took various trails at Catalina State Park. This hike crossed the stream three times. The rain last week filled the stream beds and it was a challenge to get across some areas. The large saguaro cactus, mountain ranges, lush vegetation, stream beds and washes make this hike fun and varied. 








  






  

  


The data from the hike showed that the trail the Long Hikers took was 8.7 miles. This hike is very pleasant and scenic. The view of the mountains in the background, large saguaro cactus and the washes provide diversity and a variety of experiences. Horses from Pusch Ridge Stables are seen frequently on this trail. The horses needed to ford the streams, just like the hikers. After the rain last week the streams were high and it was sometimes difficult to know the best place to cross.

Catalina State Park 

From I-10 and Florence Blvd. go south on I-10. At Exit 240 go east on Tangerine Rd. to Oracle Rd, (Hwy 77). Turn right (south) less than a mile turn left at the light into Catalina State Park.  $6 entrance fee required. Proceed easterly to the trail head.   32°25’30.60”N  110°54’29.82”W
