March 17, 2017 - Casa Grande Mountain and BBQ

Peart Trailhead
The two trailheads on Casa Grande Mountain Park are Peart Trailhead, at 1086 Peart Road and the Arica Trailhead, 2090 E. Arica Road. Each trailhead provides a different experience and varying levels of difficulty.
The Peart Trailhead is close to Casa Grande and is accessed in the City, no need to go to the 1-10. From the intersection of Peart and East Florence Blvd turn south toward the I-8 freeway. Follow the road across Jimmy Kerr Blvd and under I-8 then left, then right, followed by an immediate left (hiker sign) onto the dirt road ¼ mile to the trailhead.

Our last hike of the season hike started at the Peart Trailhead and followed the Ridge and Spine Trails. This trail travels south and is the longest on Casa Grande Mountain at nearly 5 miles long. From there we followed the Spine Trail which is about 3.3 miles when following the whole trail. We followed the loop. The Ridge - Spine Loop is about 6 miles. We did a figure on this trail (see GPS map).

Arica Trailhead (the other trailhead on this mountain)
Travel southeast on I-10. Take exit 200 to Sunland Gin Rd. Turn right, then another right, westbound, onto Arica Rd. just past Love’s. Travel to the trailhead at the end of the road.

There is an assessment hike with detailed instructions of the marking posts and the trails to follow. These maps are available on Skip’s Email for the Sedona hike.

The Casa Grande Hiking Club members helped with the improvement of the Casa Grande Mountain trails. See the website for information about this trail.
